Complete interior refurbishment of an apartment in Terraços de Bragança in Chiado, Lisbon. Terraços de Bragança is originally a residential development from Álvaro Siza Vieira concluded in 2004 in Chiado, Lisbon. With respect to the original architecture of the building the concept for the interiors was proposed using the same or similar materials such as lioz stone, light timber and classic Roman travertino marble. The unconventional window and door frame system for the glazed façade was also kept and maintained according to the original Siza project.
The apartment was originally a 5 Bed which the new concept and layout proposed to convert to a 3 Bed with larger internal spaces. The social areas were all increased to maximize the views over the river Tagus and the kitchen was increased in size to fit an island for 10 people to dine. The concept is to have a circulation of 360 degrees from the social areas to the kitchen with modular timber panels that can be fully closed to separate the spaces or fully open to promote the circulation between them.
The social areas and bedrooms are connected by a panelized corridor in timber with seamless doors. The master bedroom was designed in a similar way to the social areas, with the potential to fully open the bathroom or to enclose it for privacy via bi folding timber panels. The second bedroom facing the river was designed with a fully enclosed bathroom accessed through the closet space, whilst the third rear bedroom has an exposed bathroom inside the bedroom with private spaces in glass partitions. This last one aimed to maximize the window area for the bedroom.
